The
first settlements
of Lublin, the biggest city on
the eastern bank of the Vistula,
date back to the 6th c. Seven
centuries passed until Lublin
acquired municipal rights in
1317.
A period
of similar length passed from the
day when King Ladislas the Elbow
High granted this royal privilege
to contemporary times.
The 13th c.
defensive tower erected on the
Castle Hill is the oldest
architectural monument in Lublin
and in the Lublin Region.
From
the Middle Ages onwards Lublin's
architecture developed rapidly in
its numerous forms: sacral and
secular, defensive and
residential, private and
municipal offering today's
visitor a wide spectrum of styles
from Romanesque to ultramodern.
The
Architectural Trail
will take you to the most
buildings designed by eminent
architects and erected by famous
builders.
